They're symbols based on the African artistic culture, and some original designs. Just eye candy is all it is.

Why are they orange-red?

Yellow, Goldenrod, Orange, Gold, Red, Crimson, Burnt Sienna, Brown, they chose these colours based on the African theme, and you'll notice those colours often throughout the movie, but they've also chosen bright colours based from the native's clothing and attire there.

Are these intelligent gueses or a product of an in-depth research?

I'm sure everyone here knows this, but the entire colour scheme of The Lion King was to be Africa-colour based, and an example of that was seen in Just Can't Wait to be King.

I realized just the other day that Jeremy Irons (Voice of Scar) is the bad guy in Die Hard 3.
I've seen both TLK and DH3 several times and still i didn''t notice that until yesterday when i was scrolling HSX.

I just can't belive i've missed that so completely!
